Helen Hanson taught Languages before becoming a professional Printmaker. She is a member of the Society of Botanical Artists, South Bank Printmakers and was for many years a member of Greenwich Printmakers. She has work in galleries throughout Britain and abroad. Helen's etchings combine detail and pattern with the changing aspects of the land. Weather, water and wild plants are constant themes. She works on one area of ecological interest at a time, so that colours, moods and textures appear in a series of different but related images. "I never get bored. Each new patch is a source of inspiration and study and a fresh start." In her light, bright studio on the Kent coast Helen builds up her body of work from sketches and photographs produced on her walks. The most important element is a strong sense of place. "I still interpret and translate things constantly. Now it's into aquatint and open bite".
